Located along the central bayshore of San Francisco, Mission Bay is one of the newest and fastest growing neighborhoods in the City. For years a rail yard of the Southern Pacific Railroad Company, the Mission Bay district was created in 1998 by the San Francisco Board of Supervisors as a redevelopment project and has since exploded into an area of luxury condominiums, upscale restaurants and retail stores, and biotechnology research and development. Notable landmarks include UCSF Mission Bay, a new research campus for the University of California, San Francisco; the headquarters of the Old Navy brand of The Gap; the Mission Bay Branch Library, and the first new branch of the San Francisco Public Library in more than four decades.
Mission Bay has seen the development of several condominium communities over the past decade, some of which are townhouse-style two story layouts, as well one-story units of various sizes and floor plans. And with more complexes on the way, the area will continue to grow well within the foreseeable future.
U.S. 101, I-280 and I-80 are all are close by, while the N-Judah and T-Third Street streetcars provide direct access to downtown, BART and several outlying areas.
