Russian Hill
Like its neighboring district to the north, Nob Hill, this sunny, stately, mostly residential section of the City is also known for its grand views of the entire San Francisco Bay Area, not to mention its steep hills. For that reason, many of the sidewalks along Russian Hill are actually paved staircases (a feature noted prominently in author Armistead Maupin?s Tales of the City, among other books, films, and television series).
Tourist attractions Ghirardelli Square, Aquatic Park, and Fisherman?s Wharf are all to the north of Russian Hill, while Lombard Street, known throughout the world for its many twists and turns, is to the east. The area is also home to the prestigious San Francisco Art Institute.
