Anza Vista is a
small, pocket-shaped neighborhood that runs east/west from Divisadero Street to
Masonic Avenue, and north/south from Geary Boulevard to Turk Street. Built on
the site of the former Calvary Cemetery (one of several San Francisco-based
burial grounds whose graves were relocated to Colma in the 1930s and 1940s), it
is a quiet community comprised of flats, apartment buildings and midcentury modern-style
homes. Though mostly residential, it is also the location of a Kaiser
Permanente hospital, a small shopping center and several neighborhood
restaurants and pubs. Like other neighborhoods in the northwest sector of the
City, Anza Vista is prone to overcast skies in the morning, but usually
promises sunny weather in the afternoon. The 38 Geary and 31 Balboa bus lines
provide access to downtown due east, and Ocean Beach due west.
