Buena Vista Park
This affluent neighborhood south of the Haight-Ashbury district is the location of Buena Vista Park, the oldest official park in San Francisco. Bordered by Haight Street to the north, Buena Vista Avenue to the west and east, Market Street to the south, the park sits atop a steep hill that peaks at 575 feet and covers 37 acres. West of Buena Vista Park is an early home designed by noted architect Cass Calder Smith, while south of the park is 355 Buena Vista East, a onetime hospital building that has since been converted to condominiums. Featured briefly in the classic Alfred Hitchcock thriller Vertigo, 355 Buena Vista East is now listed in National Register of Historic Places. Many homes in the area are spacious, traditional floor plans and offer spectacular views of San Francisco.
