Sunnyside
Located south of Mount Davidson, and southwest of Glen Canyon Park and the Glen Park and Diamond Heights districts, the historic Sunnyside district was originally developed in 1890 by noted San Francisco businessman Behrand Joost, founder of the first inner-city electric streetcar line in San Francisco (and the namesake of Joost Street, which runs east/west in the northern section of the neighborhood). It is the location of San Francisco City College and the Sunnyside Conservatory, a city landmark owned by the San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department. Despite its proximity to Westwood Heights, Miraloma Park and other pricier neighboring districts, Sunnyside, with its mix of Victorian cottages, stucco homes and midcentury tract houses, has the look and feel of a working-class neighborhood. Interstate 280 provides access to 19th Avenue/Highway 1, the San Francisco International Airport, the Bay Bridge, Caltrain and several BART stations.
