Located on the western slope of Twin Peaks, this residential neighborhood in the center
of San Francisco
was originally designed as a single housing development in the late 1950s. It is
also the site of Sutro
Tower, a three-pronged
antenna tower just southeast of Mount
Sutro that is one of the
dominant features of the San Francisco
skyline. One of many landmarks bearing the name of noted developer and onetime San Francisco mayor Adolph
Sutro, the tower has transmitted signals from most Bay Area television stations
since July 1973.
