LakesideLakeside is a long, narrow, shard-shaped neighborhood located east of San Francisco State University and the Stonestown shopping center. Despite the fact that it is flanked by two of the busiest thoroughfares in the City (Junipero Serra Boulevard to the east, and 19th Avenue/Highway 1 to the west), it is a relatively quiet, semi-affluent and picturesquely-idyllic community that seems to have been plucked straight out of the pages of the Saturday Evening Post. Houses here are known for their green shutters, white grille balconies and resplendent rose gardens, not to mention pristine streets and (quite literally) white picket fences. Interestingly enough, though it is in close proximity to Lake Merced, the Lakeside neighborhood is not actually situated alongside the lake. The name is derived from Lakeside Village, an local shopping area located nearby.
